searching for a change of mind

October 14, 2010

Imagine a cork bobbing on the water. Now imagine that water is the Pacific Ocean during a typhoon. That’s my heart.

I’d like to wake up tomorrow and be allowed, and able, and eager, to just write all day until all the ideas are lined up in neat rows. Instead, I’ll get up, make coffee, go to the office, perform my tasks, and daydream about a guy on a skateboard at the Brooklyn Banks (R.I.P., but we’re talking 2007 here). He is all befuzzled and achy and he’s got to skate because skating is mindless (in the meditative sense) and pure and he is fully himself there, in those moments-between-moments, riding on air.
